VIRTUE SERIES: PATIENCE

An old saying claims that "the patient dog gets the fattest bone", but sadly, today, I'm not sure that the patient dog gets any bone at all. The same is applicable to humans. A farmer who waits patiently for the rain to water his seeds would not prosper as much as one who finds a means of irrigation when the rain delays. You don't harvest the same day you plant; you don't plant and then sleep until the day of the harvest either. Hence, 'Patience' is not a state of inaction, instead, it is the right thing to do after you have done all that is needful.
Patience is a valid requirement for prosperity. This is because, most certainly, life has patterns and processes that cannot be totally ignored or despised. Growth is a process by which small things become big. Patience is necessary since change does not happen by accident, especially when it's a good one.
However, the point is not that patience fails. Rather, the point is that there are two main types of patience I have identified. There is the patience that comes with a purpose, which is profitable and prudent, and there is the patience without plans or purpose which is a highway to failure and loss.
The patience with purpose does us so much good. This is when you wait, not because you feel helpless and hopeless, but because you have to wait as a matter of necessity. In this situation, you are not waiting in vain and idleness, you are waiting upon an expected result while you occupy yourself with doing what you have to do.
There are many great things that life would never give you even though you may desire them; these are the things you owe yourself the responsibility of doing and getting. I have always believed that life can allow you to dream as big as you wish since it virtually costs nothing to dream, but life will never allow you get any of your dreams accomplished as easily as you have dreamed'. In 2013, I scribbled somewhere in my book of ideas: Think as wide as the oceans; Dream as big as you wish; (but) Act as far as you want to go!
So, while you act in line with your desired outcomes, there is a period and place of patience during which you allow your actions to grow your dreams into reality. This is what I call patience with a purpose. Patience here is definitely not vain -ask the builders of the city of Rome, inventors, CEOs, and any successful person, they sure know better. On the other hand, there is patience without a plan or purpose.
For those who may believe in "qui sera sera" in an extreme way, this is as dangerous as a gun in the face. It can ruin a life and more. If what will be will be, then we can all enjoy the patience without purpose and see how our lives will turn out. It wasn't easy for Einstein or Winfrey to achieve what they have, and it definitely wasn't easy for me to write all this down.
I so doubt the idea of what-will-be. I should have relaxed, expecting this blog to run itself or worry less about my writing career. As far as success in life is concerned, what will be is what you do. Don't expect stones to turn themselves out of luck or chance, or else life itself will happen, and you might regret it.
Patience without a plan or purpose is idleness, laziness, a weakness, one of the worst ways to run one's life. Don't allow frustration or depression or doubts or even fears keep you from fighting for your life. Yes, there would be tough times, but no matter how bad times can get, you will never be less accountable for your life!
Hence, patience with a purpose is a virtue of the strong-hearted successful person. It's a quality of a prosperous and fortunate person. Conversely, patience without plans or purpose is another way to die even before one's final death.
Be patient with yourself, your dreams and life, but be patient the right way. Until you have something to fight for, you may never have something to win, believe me. Believe it!
